Martha’s Vineyard visitors and residents got the opportunity to learn something about the business of commercial fishing at “Meet the Fleet,” an event held in Menemsha harbor Thursday afternoon hosted by the Martha’s Vineyard Fishermen’s Preservation Trust.
Fishermen took a break and tied up their boats so they could talk to visitors about what they do and how they do it. The afternoon was dedicated to the memory of Luke Gurney, a commercial fisherman who died on June 20 when he was swept overboard while fishing off Nantucket.
Photographer Siobhan Beasley was there to capture a sunny afternoon filled with crab races, net mending contests and music from Island band Goodnight Louise.
