The Edgartown board of health will be holding a forum for the public to learn about the value of community water fluoridation.
Water fluoridation has been a contentious topic nationally and on the Island. Proponents of water fluoridation say having fluoride put into the public water is beneficial, as it strengthens teeth and prevents cavities. Opponents of water fluoridation say it is not healthy, and that the addition of fluoride into public water should not be a decision of local, state, or federal government, but the decision of each individual household.
Edgartown voters were angered in November when Edgartown board of health members Harold Zadeh and Dr. Garrett Orazem voted 2-1 in favor of adding fluoride to the water. Board of health member Kathie Case abstained.
The decision on whether to add fluoride to the town water supply will be up to the voters on the Edgartown annual town ballot on April 12.
The forum panel is still being assembled, but currently consists of Bruce Golden, DDS; Dr. David Samuels, a periodontist; and Matt Poole, the Edgartown board of health agent. The Rev. Chip Seadale of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will be the forum moderator.
The forum will be primarily a listening session. “There will be an opportunity for public participation,” Poole said. “We are trying to make this a focused conversation on the Edgartown board of health proposal.”
The forum will be held in the public meeting room at the Edgartown Public Library from 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 8.
Oh no! Don’t let them sap your precious bodily fluids!

I’m glad I have a well
You might want to check the fluoride content of your well-water. While fluoridated tap water is constantly monitored and maintained at the concentration of 0.7 ppm, there is no such strict control over the fluoride level in well-water.

4800 professionals urge ending fluoridation based on the science proving that ingesting fluoride is ineffective at reducing tooth decay and harmful to health making fluoridation a waste of money at least and health-robbing at worst. Fluoride, neither a nutrient nor essential for healthy teeth is a drug with side effectis that shouldn’t be prescribed by lobbied legislators ,delivered by water employees then dosed based on thirst and not age, health, weight and need while monitoring for overdose and side effects http://FluorideAction.Net/researchers/professionals-statement
For the purpose of disclosure, “nyscof” is the “Media Relations Director” for the New York antifluoridationist faction, “FAN”, a group well known for its dissemination of misinformation on fluoridation.
1. Of nyscof’s “4800 professionals” there are but 350 dentists and 550 MDs, worldwide. In the US alone, there are approximately 175,000 dentists and 950,000 MDs. That there is such a minuscule percentage of outliers who oppose water fluoridation is clear demonstration of the near negligible opposition to this initiative within respected science and healthcare.
2. There obviously is no “science proving that ingesting fluoride is ineffective at reducing tooth decay and harmful to health”, as nyscof ridiculously claims. This is an excellent example of the misinformation constantly disseminated by nyscof and her “FAN”.
Countless, peer-reviewed scientific studies clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of fluoridation in the prevention of significant amounts of dental decay in entire populations. I will gladly cite as many such studies as anyone would reasonably care to read.
In the entire 73 year history of fluoridation , hundreds of millions having chronically ingested optimally fluoridated water during this time, there have been no proven adverse effects. Zero.
From what planet nyscof obtained her “information” that fluoridation is, in any manner, “harmful to health”……is a mystery known only to her.
3. Far from being a “waste of money”, numerous peer-reviewed studies demonstrate a cost-savings of $15-$50, or more, per $1 spent on fluoridation. I will gladly cite these studies should anyone so desire.
4. Fluoride has existed in water since the beginning of time. To suddenly proclaim this fluoride to be a “drug” as antifluoridationists constantly attempt to do……is obviously ludicrous.
5. There is no peer-reviewed scientific evidence of any “side-effects” of fluoride at the optimal level at which water is fluoridated.
6. Fluoride in water does not require to be “prescribed”. Or……does nyscof believe that nature has been writing prescriptions for this nutrient through the eons?
7. Fluoride in water is not “delivered by water employees”. Such employees are responsible for assuring that the myriad substances they routinely add to public water supplies are done so at the proper level. They do not make deliveries.
8. When the maximum “dose” of a substance which can be ingested falls below the threshold of adverse effects for that substance, then “dose” is not an issue in regard to adverse effects. This is true of chlorine, fluoride, ammonia, and the numerous other substances routinely added to public water supplies. Before the level of adverse effects of fluoride could be attained from consuming optimally fluoridated water in addition to that from all other normal sources of fluoride intake, water toxicity would be the concern, not fluoride.
9. The link nyscof provides is nothing but a redirect to nonsense posted on the website of her “FAN”. It is always very telling that antifluoridationists such as nyscof have such fear of citing legitimate sources of information which has not first been filtered and edited through their own little websites and blogs.
For those truly interested in honest, factual information on fluoridation, the websites of the CDC, the EPA, the American Dental Association, the World Health Organization, and the American Academy of Pediatrics, each has a wealth of such information readily available to anyone.

Amazing. Only in America.
In 2015, there were 195,722 practicing dentists in the United States.
Try this read instead. It’s from the American Dental Association.

I heard they are using high capacity assault fluoride too.
Citizens must choose to believe scare mongering from an unqualified individuals like NYSCOF or America’s Pediatricians, Family Physicians and over 100 other groups of legitimate health experts who, Many expert panels and systematic reviews all of the scientific information have repeatedly found fluoridation is important, prevents cavities and is completely safe.
A convenient spot to review many such statements recommending community water fluoridation is here: Organizations Endorsing Fluoridation – In their own words
http://www.ilikemyteeth.org/fluoridation/why-fluoride/
A very important benefit of fluoridation is the avoidance of about 2/3rds of the operations necessary for mouth fulls of rotten teeth in preschool children.
This cavity prevention benefit has been confirmed in Texas, Louisiana, New York, Australia and England.

Fluoridation’s cavity prevention saves about half of the Medicaid dental bills for children . These operations are done under general anesthesia which a small but definite risk to life. Opponents are tragically mistaken if they pretend to believe that no such children live in Vermont
Fluoridation benefits adults and children from all walks of life, vulnerable populations, and those who may receive no dental care at all.
For every $1 spent on water fluoridation, $32-43 per citizen are saved every year with lower dental bills. This translates into more money for families to spend on goods and services in Edgartown.
