The Steamship Authority reservation system was knocked out temporarily Sunday by a power surge in Falmouth where the SSA is headquartered, general manager Robert Davis told The Times.

The power spike was brief, but the system had to be rebooted, Davis said. It was back up and running late Sunday night, he said.

After close to a month of service issues with ferries, and complaints about its ability to communicate with passengers and its own staff, the Steamship Authority had the snafu with its website.

A Times reader wrote to say that while in Woods Hole he was unable to make or change reservations at the ticket window. The agent wrote down all the pertinent information on a piece of paper. A Times editor tried twice to make a ferry reservation on Sunday and got this message:

“Unfortunately, we have run into an error we weren’t able to recover from. We’ve been notified of the error, and will look into it right away. In the mean time, feel free to hit Back and try again.”
