Temporary tents installed last spring at the Steamship Authority’s Woods Hole terminal have been removed and will be replaced by a more permanent, yet temporary, canopy “for passenger protection during the winter, spring and summer of 2018 and 2019,” according to an update from project manager Bill Cloutier.
“We hope to complete installation by Christmas,” Cloutier’s report states. “The canopy will have to be removed to allow construction of the middle slip next fall.”
The tents were praised by commuters at a meeting in June after a series of mechanical breakdowns and storm-related cancellations left travelers stranded at times and sometimes waiting outside in foul weather.
Meanwhile, the Steamship Authority has established a way for residents and travelers to report concerns about construction on the terminal project, a week after an awful odor was reported as a result of the project. Concerns can be reported to Cloutier or another SSA staff member at 508-289-4419. During the day, Cloutier is available at 508-548-5011, ext. 429.
