|On Jan. 8 at 6 pm, the Vineyard Cribbage Club met at the P.A. Club in Oak Bluffs. Twenty-nine players showed up to compete in the weekly tournament. Six games are played, with two points for a win, zero for a loss, and three points for a skunk (a win greater than 30 points).|
The results: First was Juli Vanderhoop, Aquinnah, with a 12/5 plus 81 card; second was Bob Hakenson, Oak Bluffs, with a 11/5 plus 111 card; third was Roy Scheffer, Edgartown, with a 11/5 plus 88 card; fourth was Dennis VanMehren, Vineyard Haven, with a 11/5 plus 80 card; fifth was Bill Russell, Vineyard Haven, with a 10/5 plus 11 card; sixth was Robert Lehman, Oak Bluffs, with a 10/4 plus 111 card, and seventh was Kate Medeiros, Oak Bluffs, with a 9/4 plus 43 card.
Mary Alice Russell was dealt a 28-point hand, the first she has received in the 40-plus years of playing the game — a rare hand beaten only by the famed 29-point hand.
The group as a whole had 10 skunks, and a total of eight 24-point /hands.
Our next tournament will be on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the P.A. Club at 6 pm. The doors open at 5:30, and if you can play a game in 20 minutes or less, come by and check us out.
