Poet’s Corner

How I Feel About Covid-19
By Lillian Reuben (age 8)

I feel like a bug stuck in a jar
I feel like I’m locked inside of my car
I feel like a prisoner in my own fairytale
I feel like a sailor who cannot sail
I feel like I’m being left out of my very own game
I feel like no sunshine, just thunder and rain
But it is not just me who has these feelings
Everyone wants to see their friends
And I know we will all get through to the end.

Lillian Reuben just completed third grade at Bedford Village Elementary School. She has been visiting Martha’s Vineyard since she was born. On the ferry ride over this year, she told her mother, “Mom, the Island smells like happiness.”

Poets with a connection to Martha’s Vineyard are encouraged to submit poems to Poet’s Corner curator Laura Roosevelt at ldroosevelt@gmail.com
