Our apologies for the delay in this week’s official cribbage report, as we celebrated the lives of our beloved Roy Scheffer and Tricia Bergeron. Both were dearly loved, deeply missed, and forever part of our cribbage family. In true Royster fashion, he has managed to still hang around the Top 10 from above, proving once again that some sharks are just impossible to knock off the board.

Meanwhile, three others are now circling in a very quiet ocean full of peg holes and bad math. Stay tuned to see Bill Russell, Jack Silvia, and Collin Evanson swim to the top!
Ed Montesion gruffly skunked three people on May 6. That impressive sweep gave him the first-place victory, and apparently that was not enough. Ed returned this week and doubled down, claiming first place again, just in case anyone thought last week was a fluke or clerical error. Mary Alice Russell, running in the Top 5 this season, and known as the Cribbage Queen, had a slight fall from grace, claiming the first-place grand slam win on May 6, and last place on the 13th. Results for the last three tournaments are as follows:

Monday, May 4 (makeup tournament)

First, Mary Alice Russell with a 13/6 +131 card

Second, Sharon Barba with a 10/5 +40 card

Third, Judy Lorusso with a 10/4 +50 card

Fourth, Andria Jason with a 9/4 +53 card

After careful consideration, we selected a winner for our $1,000 scholarship! It was awarded to a graduating senior who will be continuing their education and career path in the trades field. We are proud to support a young person building a future with skill and hard work.

And finally, we are very happy to notify everyone that our Cribbage Club will continue playing at the American Legion in Katama, as our lease agreement has been extended for another year. Around here, space is very limited, so holding onto a place to gather, play, laugh, complain about cards, accuse each other of “getting lucky again,” and enjoy good company and great food is truly something to celebrate.

So the race for first place continues, Ed appears to be on a skunking spree, Mary Alice is working on her comeback story, and Roy is still holding his ground in the Top 10 from the heavens.

As always, shuffle fairly, peg honestly, and remember: In cribbage, no lead is safe, no ego is protected, and someone is always one bad cut away from becoming next week’s headline. We regularly meet on Wednesdays at the American Legion in Katama; if you like cribbage please come join us! We have a potluck every week at 5:30 pm, and we start playing at 6 pm SHARP. If you’d like more info feel free to email, call, or text Mary Alice Russell at maonmv@mac.com or 508-524-1220.
