A small fire at Island Color Center in Tisbury temporarily closed Lagoon Pond Road by Five Corners last Thursday morning.

Three Tisbury fire engines were deployed to the local paint shop while Tisbury Police closed the road to vehicular traffic; cars were allowed to use the U.S. Post Office parking lot to bypass the emergency vehicles. The sidewalk was also temporarily closed for a short time. The roads were back open by 9:15 am.

Tisbury Fire Chief Patrick Rolston told The Times he received a call on his personal cell phone at around 8:35 am about the fire, which was extinguished before firefighters arrived at the scene. Rolston said the fire had stemmed from a light fixture in the building, and caused minor damage to the ceiling.

Nobody was hurt in the incident, and Rolston said the response was to ensure that the fire had not expanded to other parts of the building.

Jen Ingraham, owner of Island Color Center, said they put out the small flame with a fire extinguisher after a customer noticed smoke coming from another room.

“It’s good to have the quick response of the fire department,” Ingraham said, commending the “very professional” and “amazing job” done by the first responders.
