The end of tranquility
To the Editor: If the citizens of Tisbury open the door to alcohol sales even a tiny crack, we invite nothing less than the demise of 300 years of tranquility.
The economics of it for businesses
I don't enjoy being stirred into the same pot as some landlords that a few of the Letters to the Editor have portrayed in the last few weeks.
More attention needed
The proposed connector road has been planned for some time, and the town has been asked to approve several stages.
Eating in a good cause
On Wednesday, April 7, Martha's Vineyard Youth Hockey (MVYH) families and players rallied their supporters to join in a wonderfully fun and simple fundraising event at Sharky's Cantina.
She’s studying for the Bee
I want to thank you for sponsoring me for the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington DC from May 30 to June 6.
A performance beyond expectations
After two years of fundraising, four months of evening, Saturday and Sunday rehearsals, and months of intricate planning and coordination, 28 MVRHS Minnesingers and their chaperones boarded the ferry in Vineyard Haven bound for Prague in the Czech Republic.
Exploit the dry brand
In times of financial constraint, capitalizing on quirkiness is often the best strategy.
A quiet, friendly place
To the Editor: I am a resident of Vineyard Haven and I am writing in support of the upcoming beer and wine resolution.
We must provide expected services
As a resident of this Island who enjoys eating out fairly often, I encourage others to vote yes for beer and wine in Tisbury for several reasons.
Church/state, no divide
The decision of the town of West Tisbury at the annual town meeting to spend $150,000 on the Congregational Church, in addition to the $30,000 it has already spent, is totally unacceptable.
Vibrant again
Of the many important reasons to vote yes for beer and wine in Tisbury, I want to emphasize that the health of our business community is critical to the health of our entire town.
Real change for the better
A yes vote to permit the sale of beer or wine will allow only the following to occur: The sale of only beer or wine, only with food, only at your table, only at dining establishments approved and licensed by the town, only at those with at least 30 seats, and only by wait staff who have received state approved certification.
A straightforward issue
You'd never know it from all of the emotional rhetoric, but the beer and wine question facing Tisbury voters next Tuesday is a remarkably straightforward issue.
Enhance the community
We live and work in Vineyard Haven, and we are in support of beer and wine.
Cruel and unnecessary
In the last few weeks, I watched my very healthy three-year-old cat become more and more despondent and most assuredly ill.
A life saved
We are fortunate to have public servants who are compassionate and vigilant, as they perform their daily duties for the community, eager to risk life and limb, reluctant to take credit, even in the case of saving a life.
Vote no on beer/wine
Two of the qualities of life in our community in Vineyard Haven will be affirmed by voting no on Article 1, to limit the sale of alcohol in the town of Tisbury, on April 27 – our grandchildren and "getting away from it all.
